Mickey Mouse Bedroom…NO

Let me begin by saying that I am not a big fan of characters or anything overly cartoonish. When my 3 year old son was moving into his “big boy room” he requested Mickey. At the time, he was insisting that his name was Mickey. Talk about obsessed! But, this mama isn’t a fan of characters and I didn’t want it to look like Mickey Mouse threw up in my kids bedroom. What did I do? Well, the plan began for a Not So Mickey Mouse Bedroom.

Mickey Mouse Bedding

I searched the internet for the best Mickey Mouse bedrooms. Mostly I found tons of character garbage, but I did find some cute stuff for inspiration.

But, my kid is 3. What is he going to want in a few years? I didn’t want to spend a fortune so custom bedding was definitely out. Luckily I found this bedding at Target that I could live with! Mickey, but not cartoonish. Not so Mickey Mouse bedding!

Again, not wanting a ton of characterish stuff all over his room, I searched and searched for wall art that would work for my style but also interest my son. It took awhile but I finally found these graphics on Etsy. I bought them, put them into a photo program, and printed them at Walgreens! Poster Sized! The frames were from Ikea!

I found some cute Mickey Mouse inspired letters on Pinterest and made my own!

For a splash of color, I added red, yellow, black and gray fabric bunting to the window.

While I’m not much of a decorator, I’m pleased with the final product. What is even better is that my son loves his new Mickey Mouse room! The gray color looks nice with red so in the future, this room could become an Ohio State bedroom super easily!!
